Specialty and Scleral Contact Lens Fittings

Vine Vision offers a wide range of specialty soft lenses for the treatment of astigmatism, nearsightedness, and farsightedness to bifocal contacts.

When common options do not provide solutions, we often recommend custom scleral lenses.

Scleral Contacts are gas permeable lenses fit to vault over the cornea. For irregular corneas, the scleral lens provide a new shape in front of the cornea that often provides vision clearer than what can be obtained from glasses or conventional contacts. Scleral lenses also benefits dry eye patients by continuously bathing the eye in solution acting as a liquid bandage for corneal surface disease.

To properly diagnose and design a custom scleral lens to your eye, our doctors will use a Pentacam topographyer/profileometer that maps your cornea and sclera for precise lens design. This diagnostic procedure is comfortable and painless.

Scleral contact lenses can greatly improve vision and improve relief in patients with corneal irregularities and ocular surface disease including:

  • Corneal Scarring
  • Ectasias
  • Keratoconus
  • High Astigmatism
  • Pellucid Degeneration
  • Post Corneal Transplants
  • Post LASIK
  • Post Radial Keratotomy (RK)
  • Dry Eye Syndrome
  • Ocular Chronic Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD)
  • Sjogrens Syndrome
  • Corneal Exposure
  • History of Ocular Herpes (Shingles) and Autoimmune Disorders (eg.
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis)

Fitting scleral lenses requires extensive training, diagnostic lenses and cutting edge technology; therefore very few optometrists are able to offer this service like Vine Vision.
